From the 22nd March until the 26th of April 2021 we have been running around Ireland to reach different destination LANDMARKS IN IRELAND and tracking our kilometres. In the Senior school the students walked/ ran/ jogged the pitch and worked out the kilometres to the destination LANDMARKS we had reached. The next part was to look at pictures of the landmarks on the internet or on google maps. Some of the classes researched the landmarks in more detail. Read more from Micaela in 6th For our active schools Sixth Class sometimes ran or jogged the pitch or yard three times. We added up the amount of kilometres we did throughout and calculated distances to Irish landmarks. I and the rest of the school encourage YOU, YOUR CLASS and YOUR TEACHERS, to explore Ireland and its landmarks. In the Junior School and St Joseph's, the classes ran/walked/jogged the yard to count the kilometres to reach the destinations in IRELAND, then looked at the pictures on the Active Wall to see where which landmarks they have reached! We reached landmarks like the Spire, Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher, Powersourt Waterfall,Hook Head lighthouse, Kilkenny Castle, Newgrange and the Blarney Stone! A MASSIVE Well done to all the boys and girls and staff for getting involved! Get up, get out and move about! Gaelic Matches Just before Christmas break we were doing Gaelic and Football matches with Mr Keddy. On Thursdays we were split into different teams and played against each other. It was really fun. Half of the class will go instead of the whole. Soon it might be just boys and girls going instead of halving the class. Written by 6th class 6th Class Report- Daily Mile
Class of 2021 have been very active this year with going on the Daily mile almost every day before we go into class. Some of the things we like about the daily mile is that we get to clear our minds, have a chat with our friends and prepare ourselves for the busy day ahead. We would sometimes do stretches between lessons and mini brain breaks too. On the Daily mile we go around different routes everyday, we might go to the back road to Mountain View and then through the town and every Friday we go to the woods. The shortest route we walk is 1.5 km route and the longest route is 2.5 km. The walk to the woods is about 3 km to the school and back. In total we walk about 10km a week. In the woods we do things like land art, meditating and making dens, we sometimes also play games like Eagle eye and Bear, Salmon and Mosquito. The games we play in the woods involves a bit of running every so often but all the more fun. Horse-riding
