Further to PE lessons students take part in many fun activities to stay active and stimulate our brains within the classroom with ‘brain break’ activities such as yoga, dance, aerobics and Zumba thanks to the Go Noodle website, the Bizzy Breaks programme and teacher led physical movement breaks , we have had to become more creative during C-19 times, some classes go on a daily walk, others have a weekly nature walk to the woods, where there is space in the class go noodles can happen, others are testing standing for part of a lesson as well as using chair and table workouts in the classes to break sendentary time. On rainy days these activities are essential to boost energy levels fuelling the children’s brains for further learning.
We have many initiatives to promote activity throughout the day and school year. These include daily mile, forest walks, active week, go noodle, active assembly, active breaks challenge, run around Ireland, Olympics-dare to believe challenge. Teachers also use activity throughout the curriculum. For example maths trails, nature walks, tours of the school, Deir O Gradaigh as Gaeilge. Our Annual Sponsored walk is taking place in June organised by our PA and we are delighted to have it again this year! We have been practising...
