The children had an amazing day in Ferrycarrig, Co. Wexford at the Irish National Heritage Park.
Some of the children were lucky enough to dress up in clothing from the Viking and Norman time periods.
The children enjoyed writing about their day. Some of their comments and descriptions are outlined here.
We went to the Irish National Heritage Park in Wexford on the 7th of May. We got there by bus, While I was there I saw houses. We went in one of them and there was a hologram of someone making something. We were learning about the Vikings. My favourite part was about me dressing up as a warrior with an iron sword... Oisín
I had the best tour of my life. I went into viking houses. I saw a real Viking. I watched a film about Ireland. I saw a viking caveman hologram in one of the houses. Sam L
It was really fun because we already learned about the Vikings so I understand it more. First we watched a fifteen minute video about Ireland. Then we went outside to look at the stone age houses. They looked really big from the outside but it was so crowded. We went to a tomb made of rock. It was amazing how two small rocks could hold a rock so big. After that we went to a rich peoples hide-out slash playground. It was so cool..... Kellie
There were some fires outside. The fire was on the ground there were no flames but there was smoke. We went on a boat and there was a fake man sitting in a chair. The man shot an arrow at the shield. The man looked like Triple H. Tripple H is a wrestler. It was fun... Jason
We went on a boat and learned about the Vikings. Lauren, Josh and Oisín were dressed up. The man put a sword between martins arms. The man also shot a bow and arrow. Ryan Mc M
We went on a couch and saw a river. We learned about the Vikings and my favourite part was when the man stabbed himself. The vikings name was Paul. Ryan C.
We went on the bus and it took one hour and forty minutes. We saw a Viking and we also saw a Viking village. It was cool. My friend was afraid to go into the house. After lunch the Viking shot an arrow at his big shield. My favourite thing was the workshop.... Shauna
I saw a big big Viking long ship. It was very cool. I also saw their houses, churches and gardens. They were very interest to see and not just read about. My favourite part was the workshop when the man dressed people up... Hannah
We watched a fifteen minute video that told us that Newgrange is an ancient building. We walked into the park and looked at the houses and how they buried the bodies. They would stack them up on top of each other and put the body in between the rocks. Then we went into a room where he showed us all the weapons and they dressed some students up and show us the swords and armour. My favourite part was when he shot an arrow at the shield. I loved the school tour....Holly
We went to Ferrycarrig, Co. Wexford. I was asleep on the bus for a few minutes. The trip too a while. The best bit on the bus was when I saw the River Slaney. Our tour guide Paul was a Viking. We saw lots of houses from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. One of the houses had fake guts. When I saw them I walked out in disgust. We went on a boat. It was fun. ...... Adam
We looked at the Stone-Age huts made out of straw. We learned that they went hunting and moved to different places very often. Next we went to the new Stone Age where there was a bigger house. The man told us that the Stone Age people stopped moving then to different places. After that we went to the Christianity buildings. There was a church and an education building. There was a cross that St. Patrick built. Next we saw buildings with hanging meat and we saw a mill and a well and mostly how they cooked and made food... Rachael
We walked around and looked at the houses with a man wearing a Viking suit. My favourite part of the school tour was when I was allowed to go on the long boat beside the stream. We saw a village on a stream and a viking boat made out of a tree. The Vikings went in it to go to different places. They used it to catch different types of animals and fish to eat for breakfast and lunch and dinner. ... Martin
We looked at the Stone Age huts. There was two huts, one was small, one was tall. We learned that the houses were made of sticks and straw. The bottom part was made of straw. I learned that they had a very different life to us. Next we went to new Stone Age village. There was big hut and there was a gate and if you were very quiet a hologram of a Stone Age person will appear. Next we went to the Christianity buildings. We saw a church and a school. The church was my favourite thing of the whole tour. Then we went up to buildings with hanging meat. The hanging meat was in the kitchen and in the kitchen there was real apples. Then we went to a mill. It was very unusual..... Caitlin
We travelled on the bus and the journey was about 1 hour and a half. When we got there I was very excited to look around and learn about some new things. At first we stuck together but then we separated into our groups. When we first entered it was through a tunnel with fake leaves with scary noises inside. Then we entered the park First we walked through the woods for a little while and reached a cone shaped house that looked like a small hill, a fire and a wooden canoe boat. This was from the Stone age. Next we went to a very big house and a very small house and a farm. Again this was from the stone age. We saw lots of other things too. But if I named them all this would never end! After lunch went to the workshop where people dressed up as vikings. My favourite part was when we visited the Viking long boat. ... Sinéad.

Our tour guide was dressed up as a real viking. He told us about every station. Every station had a different story. At one station there was a church and a school and a man making things out of wax. There was a stone circle. There was a fort. It was wooden and two houses and it was a shape of a circle and the building was a square. All of us ran around the circle and it was so much fin. Then we walked over to the king's house but we were not allowed in to the house and another house was falling down so they had to block it off. My favourite part was all the fires....... Grace
We saw what the Vikings homes were like inside. We saw cows legs and ladder beds, wool and a man in a pictogram. They also had a church that looked like a church made of clay. We went to see what it was like inside. It was very small. One house was called the bee house. The top was like a top of a hive and at the bottom it was normal. There was skins of animals and bones. We saw a long boat and we were one it . It was like a giant ship. There were camp fires and big boulders. My favourite bit was the long boat. Josh, Lauren and Oisín dressed up from the Vikings. Josh was a normal man, Lauren was his wife and Oisín was a warrior...... Jamie
